What does this code mean?
The X suffix (sometimes shown as "Month 1" or "Week 1" on payslips) indicates non-cumulative tax calculation. Like M1 and W1, it means each pay period is treated in isolation. This almost always results in paying more tax than you should over the full year. Check with HMRC if this persists beyond your first few months.
